The Sacred Heart Language College

Aoife

My name is Aoife and I really enjoyed being a part of The Sacred Heart Language College from 2011 to 2016. From the beginning the staff at Sacred Heart encouraged me to always follow my dreams and that problems were obstacles to be overcome. I went to St Anselm’s Primary school and was determined to do well when I started at the Scared Heart. I participated in a number of sports teams, such as trampolining and volleyball. As part of the volleyball team I went on to compete with the school in Year 7 at the London Youth Games. In Year 11 after competing in trampoline for two years I took part in running the event. I was one of the first Heads of House in Year 11- Elizabeth - and was able to encourage my house to raise as much money for charity as possible, beating the target I set at the beginning of the year. I enjoyed helping out at Open Evening every year that I attended the school, and I have always been amazed at the number and range of extra curricular activities offered by the school, including the opportunity to go for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. Following my time at Sacred Heart, I intend to continue pursuing my goal of becoming an engineer by taking physics and mathematics at St Dominic’s Sixth Form College.

When I was in Year 10 I discovered the possibility of achieving a national award for Engineering, participating in this process involved the school registering to be an Arkwright Engineering school. I am grateful to Miss Higgins and Mr Lockwood for agreeing to this process, it allowed me to sit an aptitude exam and complete an engineering project. Success at this stage earned me a place at a formal interview and I was delighted to discover in July that I was to be awarded a scholarship and to be sponsored by an engineering company. I am proud to have introduced this award to the Sacred Heart Language College and I am honoured to be the first Sacred Heart Language College student to have received this prestigious national award for engineering. I am so grateful to all the members of staff at the Sacred Heart who made this possible.
