Kenechi - Year 9
My name is Kenechi and I am a Year 9 student at The Sacred Heart Language College. I am very grateful to be in a diverse community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and become the best version of themselves.
Since joining the Sacred Heart, I have taken the responsibilities of many roles such as Eco Representative, Charity Representative, Library Assistant, Sacred Standard Journalist, Language Lead Learner and School Council (where I expressed not only my own views but those of my tutor group and others around the school). I have been involved in many extracurricular activities like the Carnegie Book Award Club, Concert choir and so much more.
Aside from representing my Tutor Group’s views, I also represent young people’s views at Brent Youth Parliament as an executive member. My duty as communications representative is to publicise the amazing work that young people in the borough do, through social media posts. We host regular meetings at the Brent Civic Centre and have regular communication with MPs, the leader of the council and councillors. Additionally, I attend many of the scrutiny meetings as a panellist and write minutes to feed back to the group. We recently have written a letter about tackling Climate Change in Brent to our 3 local MPs and have received some exceptional responses on actions they hope to help us take. As one of the youngest members at the Brent Youth Parliament, I look forward to progressing further in the future, perhaps even as Head Girl at our school!
My favourite subjects are History, English and Modern Foreign Languages. In the future I hope to attend Oxford University to study law. My ideal job would be working in the criminal law field. The Sacred Heart has helped me build the courage, determination and perseverance to be the best in all I do. Being in a community as such, has taught me the important values of kindness, hard work and never doubting yourself. I am a confident and inquisitive student and I am excited for what my final years at the Sacred Heart hold for me. Finally, I am prepared to put in a lot of hard work to prepare for my GCSEs and any other opportunities the school has to offer.
