GCSE Poetry Live!
Year 11 visit to GCSE Poetry Live on Friday 27th February
On Friday 27th February Year 11 went to London to take part in the Poetry Live Workshop.
The students got a lot out of the experience in a sold out venue, and will certainly remember the opportunity to hear from Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, and the likes of Imtiaz Dharker (who recently joined WH Auden and Ted Hughes as a Queen's Gold Medal Winner), John Agard, Grace Nichols and Simon Armitage. Having the chance to work through an unseen poem with the Chief Examiner and look at samples of essay writing with his feedback will also be invaluable for them all come exam time.
The speakers' enthusiasm for poetry and language is crucial for the girls as they approach their exams and look further towards A Levels and University. The repeated theme throughout, that students find their own meaning in poetry was fantastic for the girls to hear.
