YEAR 7 FRESHERS' WEEK

Week commencing 30th September 2024

Science Rockets

As soon as you walked into S13, you could immediately feel a buzz in the air. Led by the Year 11s and Ms Thakrar, this was a lively and interactive session. The students made their own “balloon rockets” and were later able to race them. Hope and Georgie in 7R said this made them “excited for practicals in the future”. Truly a lovely start to Year 7’s Freshers Week.

English and Geography

Year 7s had the option to participate in Geography themed activities at lunchtime in J21, and it was so fun! There were activities such as guessing the countries based on its outline, and naming symbols on a map. Sweets were given to those who completed them, and overall this was very engaging and interesting!

At lunchtime in S10, there were exciting activities in English based around creative writing. Many year 7s turned up to get involved and have fun, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. There was also a fake murder scene in the room to help inspire people, which I thought was very creative!

Philosophy Club

Philosophy club was an excellent part of Year 7 Freshers Week. Led by Ms Kushi, Philosophy club challenges students minds and allows them to think and express their ideas towards different prompts. These prompts, such as Utilitarianism, are linked with future topics they do, such as Moral Dilemmas in Year 9 in RE. Philosophy club allowed the Year 7s to look at the bigger questions and to think outside the box; Sajeentha in 7A says that she “really likes to learn new things and to think about everyone’s life and way of thinking”.

Year Seven Freshers' Finale: Choir Concert Celebration

Year 7’s Freshers' Week is coming to an end, and they “Couldn’t have had a better finish to the week” by all gathering as a community to express their musical talent. At first some were shy, but came out of their shell after the fun warm up exercises led by Mr. Starling and a small group of Year 11s. A concert choir is a large group of singers performing harmonised music, often spanning genres like classical and contemporary and believe me they did a great job!
